Pipiwai Trail Maui is a guide to Pīpīwai Trail in Haleakalā National Park. Status, fees, and rules come from NPS. Last verified 2026-08-16. This is not a substitute for alerts on nps.gov/hale. Contact hello@pipiwaitrailmaui.com.
One trail, covered properly
This site does one thing: Pīpīwai Trail in the Kīpahulu district of Haleakalā National Park. Every stop between the parking lot and the falls, what it costs, how long it takes, how hard it is, and whether the drive is worth it from where you are staying.
That narrowness is the point. A general Maui guide gives this trail four hundred words. We give it the mile-by-mile walkthrough, an elevation profile, a map drawn for this trail, and honest answers about who should turn around where.
How a fact gets onto a page
Numbers that move come from NPS with a date on them: fees, hours, closures, group limits, official distances. Last checked 2026-08-16.
Judgment does not get a citation. When these pages tell you the descent is harder on your knees than the climb is on your lungs, or that Makahiku is the right place to stop with a tired group, that is the guide talking. It is labelled as advice because that is what it is.
Where sources disagree, both numbers appear and then we tell you which one to plan around. Signs say four miles, GPS tracks say nearer 3.6, and you should plan for four. Averaging them would help nobody.
What this site cannot replace
nps.gov/hale is the live park site. A dated check here is a record of that day. It is not a substitute for the current alert list. See Pīpīwai hours and status.
